Geographical Location
Huizhou is a historical city, a home of overseas Chinese, and a new industrial base. Huizhou is situated on the southeastern coastal area of Guangdong Province at the northeastern end of the Pearl River Delta, facing Daya Bay of the South China Sea on the south and adjacent to Hong Kong. Under its administration, greater Huizhou consists of Huicheng District, Huiyang District, Huidong County, Boluo County, Longmen County, and two state economic development zones, namely, Daya Bay Economic and Technical Development Zone and Zhongkai High-Tech Industrial Park. Huizhou covers a land area of 11,300 km2 and has a permanent population of 6.07 million, and its real-time population can reach 9 million. Covering a sea area of over 4520 km2 and a coastline of 281.4 km, Huizhou is among the Province’s major coastal cities.
Huizhou enjoys a subtropical monsoon climate and is crossed by the Tropic of Cancer. Its terrain varies from mountains and hills in the north, to alluvial plains in the central, western, and coastal areas, and to hills and tablelands in the east and south. The city receives ample sunshine and abundant rainfall year‑round, with average annual precipitation of around 1,700 mm and about 2,000 hours of sunshine annually. Average temperatures reach 28.3°C in July and 13°C in January. The frost‑free period lasts approximately 350 days, allowing lush greenery to thrive throughout the year.

Rich Cultural Heritage
Huizhou has a long history. In the 11th Year of Emperor Kaihuang of Sui Dynasty (591AD), the seat of Governor General was set up in Huizhou. From then on, Huizhou has been the political, economic, cultural and communications center in the Dongjiang River Basin, enjoying the fame of “Critical Town in Eastern Guangdong” and “Historic Town in Lingnan Region”. During the 1,000 plus years from Tang Dynasty to the end of Qing Dynasty, hundreds of Chinese celebrities visited Huizhou, leaving the city with rich cultural legacy. As early as 1,600 years ago, Ge Hong, a Taoist sage in Jin Dynasty, initiated Taoist practice, collected pill-making herbs, practiced medicine and compiled works in Mountain Luofu. Inspired by Ge Hong's A Handbook of Prescriptions for Emergencies, Tu Youyou discovered artemisinin and was rewarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in October 2015. Su Dongpo, a famous man of letters in Song Dynasty, lived in Huizhou for 3 years, leaving behind him outstanding literary achievements and folk traditions. Dr. Sun Yat-sen and late Premier Zhou Enlai fought for their beliefs on this glorious land. A number of renowned modern figures were born and left their historic footprints in Huizhou, including Liao Zhongkai, Deng Yanda and Ye Ting. Huizhou is also known for its Hakka culture, which is a strong attraction for many tourists. Today Huizhou citizens are making great efforts to build Huizhou into a highly prosperous city with rich cultural content.

Nature has been generous to Huizhou, favoring this land with all natural beauties featuring gorgeous lakes, seas, mountains, springs, waterfalls, rivers and islands. There are 28 natural reserves, 47 forest parks, 9 wetland parks, 2 5A-level national scenic spots and 10 4A-level national scenic spots. Forest coverage of the City stands at 61.6% and it was awarded titles such as National Water Ecological Civilization City, Model National Environmental Protection City, National Forest City and China’s Excellent Tourist City.

Huizhou boasts a great number of enchanting natural beauties. Through the beautiful landscapes flow two pretty rivers of Dongjiang and Xizhijiang. Silver beaches here and there extend along some 200 km coastline. Some 100 islands scatter on the blue sea in Daya Bay. West Lake, the pride of Huizhou, lies in the center of the city. A saying goes: “There are a total of 36 west lakes across China, only Huizhou West Lake is comparable to that of Hangzhou.” Another saying goes “Beauty of Huizhou holds your puff, to rate the scenes is rather tough, hills and lakes are half and half, Dongjiang River and Xizhi River contribute the same”. Bordering cities of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan and close to Hong Kong, Huizhou boasts many geographical advantages. Huizhou owns an independent airport, harbors and high-speed railways and has formed a complete transportation network of air, land and sea. The mileage of expressway through Huizhou is 930 km, ranking the third in Guangdong Province. Huizhou Airport has launched 52 flight routes, with a passenger throughput of 3.36 million, ranking among the top in domestic airports of the same category. Huizhou is accelerating the construction of a 10 million level trunk-line airport. Huizhou boasts a total high-speed rail mileage of 258 kilometers, ranking first in the province. It is accelerating its integration into the "half-hour living circle" of Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

Ever since it embarked upon the journey of reform and opening to the outside world, Huizhou has made considerable economic achievements under the strategic policy of “putting priorities on industrial development and export-oriented economy”. Huizhou has established economic and trade relations with more than 210 countries and regions in the world, and 38 Fortune 500 companies have set up 77 foreign-funded companies in Huizhou. In particular, since 2020, the global petrochemical industry giants ExxonMobil and Shell, as well as AMER International Group and HENGLI Group, which rank the 124 and 81 on Fortune 500 list respectively, have all launched projects in Huizhou. The GDP of Huizhou in 2024 amounted to 613.6 billion yuan (approximately $87.74 billion), a year-on-year increase of 4.2%, ranking the third in Guangdong Province.
Huizhou has cultivated a modern industrial structure centered on two key pillars—consumer electronics manufacturing and petrochemicals & new materials—while actively developing the health industry as an emerging third pillar. As a major global hub for the electronic information industry, Huizhou is home to renowned companies such as TCL, DESAY, BIEL, BYD, FORYOU, LONGCHEER, and EVE Energy. Daya Bay Petrochemical Zone ranks first in the nation in terms of integrated refining and chemical production scale. Its comprehensive strength has consistently secured the top position in China's Top 30 Chemical Parks for six consecutive years.
